Tilapia Purchasing Price Drop Down in Maoming, Guangdong, China

Dec. 8th, 2010

                                          Maoming Tilapia Purchasing Price Chart

Key Words and Tendency

After three month’s steady rise, purchasing price of tilapia in Maoming District, Guangdong province became stable, even declined.

Analysis

In recent months, tilapia demand from overseas market increased but production from culture fisheries in South China decreased comparing to last year due to short fish fry releasing and disease as well as rain storms.

We can see from the price chart that from early August to mid of November, purchasing price of tilapia remained soaring up, and price reached new height which beyond factory’ s tolerance. Further more, frequent cold air in North China made farmers worry that fish might be frost-bitten or froze to death, that’s why farmers now were selling fish positively. Processing plants also took the opportunity to lower purchase price. From late November to early December, tilapia prices declined in different degrees in South China region, including Maoming district.

Forecast

Although weather was fine in South China currently, farmers wouldn’t stop their fish sales. Fish price would keep dropping down, but possibility of plummet was slight considering the limited quantity in fish ponds in Hainan province, according to factories.
